Education and Development Initiative of the Year
Acciona Facility Services Middle East won “Education and Development Initiative of the Year” at the Innovation in Facility Management (FM) Awards 2022. The award was in recognition for ACCIONA’s Supervisory Talents Excellence Program (A STEP), developed in-house, which focuses on identifying talented internal candidates for promotion and taking them through a development journey to take on supervisory roles upon successful completion of the program. The initiative was introduced at ACCIONA’s Facility Management locations in the Middle East in response to the highly demanding nature of jobs in the healthcare sector, particularly during the global pandemic.
Luis Carlos Barroso, Middle East Director for the Facility Management business, said identifying future supervisors was important because “they influence the work of a huge number of people and they are, in fact, the link between management, front-line staff and the client.” ACCIONA’s STEP program, which trains future supervisors, embodied the best practices in facility management and helped to increase the efficiency of operations, he added.
“Our structured approach to the development of personnel starts from new joiners’ level up to the leadership suite. We guarantee learning and development for all our professionals at all levels. Moreover, we focus on internal talent development.
For ACCIONA’s Supervisory Talents Excellence Program (A STEP) in the classroom we use experiential learning techniques and task-based instruction, along with other modern effective techniques. The use of experiential learning creates the “aha” moments allowing participants to be part of experiments which prove desired behaviors, and the impact of those behaviors at work. The learning doesn’t finish with classroom attendance, it is taken immediately to the workplace, digested and analyzed within informal knowledge checks discussion with the managers, then participants come back to class to learn more competencies which are in turn interlinked with each other. One block is being gradually built on top of the other until we create a strong standing structural knowledge base of supervisory competencies.” – said Elmira Abdullina, Learning & Development Manager.
Acciona Facility Services Middle East is determined to achieve operational excellence, development of personal ownership in safety culture, and the provision of sustainable solutions to all our clients.
